Early morning departure for a two day trip to Canberra.

(For your convenience Harness Racing Travelworld has made arrangements to keep your room overnight in Sydney so there is no need to check out of your hotel. We suggest that you only take an overnight bag with a change of clothes and toiletries for the overnight stay in Canberra).

Upon arrival in Canberra we undertake a guided tour of Parliament House, a symbol of Australian democracy. Home to the Parliament of Australia and meeting place of the nation, Parliament House is the focal point of our capital city. One of Australia’s most iconic buildings, Parliament House integrates Australia’s unique identity into its impressive architecture, stunning art and furniture collection, and beautiful landscape.

Our next stop is the National Portrait Gallery. The purpose of the National Portrait Gallery is to increase the understanding and appreciation of the Australian people – their identity, history, culture, creativity and diversity – through portraiture. Here there are over 400 portraits of people who have shaped Australia and who continue to shape our nation.
Overnight accommodation – The Quality Hotel Dickson (breakfast included)

Wednesday 26
Our sightseeing in Canberra continues this morning with a visit to Mt Ainslie lookout for a panoramic view of the national capitals unique layout, followed by a visit to the Australian War Memorial.
Both as a moving memorial to Australians who served their country in wartime and as a military museum, this is a shrine of great national importance and the most popular attraction in the capital. The museum explores Australian military involvement from the late 19th century through the 1970s and Vietnam up to Iraq and Afghanistan today. Displays include a Lancaster bomber, a Spitfire, tanks, landing barges, and sections of two of the Japanese midget submarines that infiltrated Sydney Harbour during World War II, as well as more interactive displays in the new Anzac Hall. One of the most moving places is the domed Tomb of the Unknown Soldier that stands above the Pool of Reflection and the roll of Honour, which are two walls of names dedicated to commemorating the thousands of Australians who have died in all military conflicts.

We depart Canberra mid afternoon and return to Sydney.
