mg head webPerth will host the Inter Dominion Championship again in 2017. A traditional series for pacers of three heats culminating in the Grand Final will be staged predominantly at Gloucester Park 24 November – 8 December with the second round of heats to be held in Bunbury 28 November. The aggregate series prizemoney will remain at $1.8 million with the heats of $75,000 each and the Grand Final of $1.1 Million. At $1.1 million the TABtouch Inter Dominion Grand Final is still the richest harness racing event in Australasia.

In 2017 we will run our tour program in conjunction with the third heats and the Grand Final. There is a ten day tour with accommodation based in Fremantle for the first five nights encompassing both Gloucester Park race meetings. Our three day tour will stay in Perth and include the Grand Final only.

Fremantle is just a 30-minute drive from Gloucester Park. The locals are proud of its authenticity and laid back way of life. The vibrant city blends the old with the new. You can explore maritime, convict and colonial history, while bustling markets, lively bars and casual street cafés give you a taste of 21st century life with the locals. After sundown, you will see the street cafes, bars and clubs come alive to create a buzzing night scene.

The redeveloped Fishing Boat Harbour that has been in operation since the early 1900s is still the best place to sample fresh local seafood.  You can even take in some classic colonial architecture as you sip your coffee on the Cappuccino Strip or a cool beer at one of many heritage pubs. And if you venture into the famous Fremantle Markets on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, you will experience the exotic aromas, sights and sounds of an icon that's been operating continuously for more than 100 years.

Our ten day tour will include two nights in Margaret River. Blessed with mild weather and abundant sunshine, Margaret River has evolved from a chilled-out surfie town into a popular base for enjoying the region's fine flavours and spectacular scenery, where rolling vineyards sit against a backdrop of ocean and forest. Our two night tour down to Margaret River includes visits to WA’s southern coastal cities of Bunbury, Busselton and Mandurah.

For those people wanting to attend the first two Inter Dominion heats, we can of course make the necessary arrangements to meet your needs including airfares, accommodation and feature race night bookings.

Our social program during the final week of the Inter Dominion will include the Barrier Draw Lunch at Gloucester Park. We will be attending country harness racing at Pinjarra, and celebrating the 2017 TABtouch Inter Dominion with our exclusive Calcutta lunch on Grand Final day.

We have chosen accommodation at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle for its location close to the Cappuccino Strip, Fremantle Markets, Fishing Boat Harbour and a host of other Fremantle attractions that are within easy walking distance. Our Perth accommodation is at the 4 star Novotel Langley located just a short walk to Perth’s main shopping areas of Hay Street and Murray Street Malls.

Airfares are not included in the tour prices. We have secured an allocation of seats with Qantas Airways from most Australian cities to coincide with each tour and have been able to secure the best value airfares available. Please refer to the airfare prices and relevant conditions shown.

If you require any further information regarding our tour program please do not hesitate to contact us on 1800 62 83 83. We hope you can join our fully escorted tour for the 2017 TABtouch Perth Inter Dominion Championship.

Thursday 07
On our journey back to Perth today our first stop is Busselton and its famous jetty. Busselton Jetty is the longest wooden jetty in the world, originally built with Jarrah timber from the local area stretching almost two kilometres out to sea. Because the shallow waters of Geographe Bay restricted ship movement, a long jetty was required to facilitate the transportation of locally grown timber, livestock and crops to awaiting ships. Building began on the jetty in 1853, and extensions continued up until the 1960’s.

The historic jetty has since become one of Western Australia’s main tourist attractions. A special “Jetty Train” takes you to the end of the jetty to an Underwater Observatory. Here you descend eight metres to the ocean floor to discover an awe inspiring forest of vividly coloured tropical and sub-tropical corals, sponges and fish. Eleven viewing windows at various levels within the Observatory allow visitors to look out on some of the 300 marine species that live beneath the jetty.
After lunch in Busselton we continue on to Perth with a brief stop at the coastal city of Mandurah.
Check in to your accommodation at the Novotel late afternoon.
